Thoracic NUT carcinoma: Common pathological features despite diversity of clinical presentations

NUT carcinoma (NC), formerly known as midline carcinoma, is a rare and very aggressive cancer. It genetically defined by the presence of acquired chromosomal rearrangement NUTM1 (NUclear protein in Testis Midline family member 1) gene at chromosome 15q14 with bromodomain-containing (BRD) gene, usually BRD4. Although primarily reported head neck, mediastinum locations younger individuals, it now established that NC arises multiple sites patients all ages, no gender predilection. likely to be underdiagnosed because lack awareness both clinicians pathologists on one hand, nonspecific histological presentation other hand. As indistinguishable from poorly differentiated carcinomas, should consider differential diagnosis any tumour. Diagnosis easily made immunohistochemistry, using highly sensitive specific monoclonal antibody. Despite chemo- or chemo-radiotherapy, prognosis this tumour remains poor.
